USA Hockey SafeSport Program - Overview

USA Hockey SafeSport is the organization's program related to off-ice safety.

USA Hockey has long had systems in place to protect its participants from physical abuse, sexual abuse and other types of abuse and misconduct that can be harmful to youth hockey players and other participants.  These include without limitation: Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Screening, Locker Room Supervision and Hazing Policies, in addition to Codes of Conduct applicable to administrators, coaches, officials, parents, players and spectators.  The USA Hockey SafeSport Handbook is intended to update and collect USA Hockey’s various policies to protect its participants from all types of misconduct and abuse.

USA Hockey SafeSport Training: START HERE

The SafeSport Training and Refresher Training are each valid for one season. Anybody that needs to be SafeSport certified will need to either complete the Core SafeSport course (first year) or a Refresher course (each year).

You need to complete training if you hold one of the following positions:

  1. Coach at the traveling level: rostered and non-rostered (You will NOT be allowed on the ice until the course is taken)
  2. Mite level rostered coach
  3. Team manager
  4. Board member
  5. Locker room monitor

Steps for SafeSport Training:

Before you can take the SafeSport Training, you must obtain a USA Hockey membership number

  • If you are a coach, you will need to register under: “Player/Coach” ($46) and provide your registration number to the HHA Registrar
  • If you are a team manager, locker room monitor, or other volunteer (non-ice participant), then you can select “Manager/Volunteer” (no cost)

After you complete registration, you will use this USA Hockey number to create your SafeSport Account

  • If you do not have an account, you will be prompted to enter your information to create a free account
    • Make sure to use the same email you use for USA Hockey Registration and CEP (certification and modules)
    • For coaches, also make sure to use the same name that your CEP is registered under  (i.e. full name, nickname, etc)
    • Select USA Hockey as the organization
    • You will need to enter your coaching number, then click VERIFY to create your account
  • When you have an account, click Sign In in the upper right.  You can take the USA Hockey SafeSport course (not the regular one).  There is no cost for this.  A record of your complete will be saved electronically.
